Head of Department Prof. Michael Murphy Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics mission is to develop a high quality research program in both basic and clinical pharmacology and to teach pharmacological sciences in the Faculties of Medicine, Dentistry and Science. Ongoing research include investigations of the mechanisms of hypoxic and iatrogenic injury to cardiomyocytes, molecular and immunohistochemical studies on peripheral dopamine receptors, mechanisms of apoptosis in neurodegenerative diseases, the role of cytokines in inflammatory bowel and periodontal diseases and the mechanisms of idiosyncratic adverse drug reactions.
